Abstract

Todays, the hydrodesulfurization (HDS) is becoming more important process in modern refineries due to environmental regulations. Most of the researches in HDS modeling use a homogeneous model to simulate the reactor. However, it is not always an accurate assumption for a real industrial reactor. In this study, the naphtha hydrodesulfurization reactor was simulated by a heterogeneous model. The model results show a good agreement with the reported experimental data. Furthermore, the effect of important operating parameter including: temperature, hydrogen pressure, and gas velocity on HDS reaction was evaluated. The results show that increasing the pressure and the temperature have a positive effect on eliminating the sulfur. However, increasing gas velocity has a negative effect on eliminating the sulfur.
