Abstract

In this study polyvinyl chloride based heterogeneous anion exchange membranes were prepared by solution casting technique. Anion exchange resin powders were utilized as functional groups agents in membrane fabrication. The effect of poly vinyl pyrrolidone additive in the casting solution on physico-chemical properties of membranes was studied. FTIR results showed that PVP was remained in the membrane matrix after membrane washing with distilled water. It was found that water content and ion exchange capacity were increased by PVP addition into membrane matrix. Also membrane potential and selectivity were improved by PVP in the casting solution. Both membrane permeability and flux were enhanced initially by PVP content ratio in membrane matrix and then decreased again. Opposite trend was found for the membrane ionic electrical resistance.
