Abstract

Fossil fuels are nonrenewable energy resources, which developing society will be confronted with lake of fuel in the future. Hence, in recent years, among the usable energies, electrical energy produced by the fuel cell can be considered as a promising option owing to its high efficiency and low environmental emissions as well as the use of hydrogen as a clean fuel. However, the world efforts to produce hydrogen from renewable sources is widely carried out. Whereby, in last decades, the novel solar membrane reactor (MR) technology as one of the effective ways to produce hydrogen from renewable sources has been proposed. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is the overview of hydrogen production methods and investigation of their benefits and drawbacks. Moreover, after introducing the new solar MR technology, the potentials of this technology for hydrogen production will be discussed.
