Abstract

Extracted gas from oil, gas and petrochemical sources contains large amounts of hydrogen sulfide. This compound is very corrosive and damages the transmission lines. One of the processes for removing hydrogen sulfide in acid gas is the modified Claus method. In order to maintain the overall efficiency of sulfur recycling units (98.5-96%), The most common method of using direct preheating methods (linear burners) and indirect (gas-gas heat exchangers) is the inlet gas flow to the catalytic substrates. Due to the problems in using the direct preheating method (including increasing fuel consumption and deactivation of catalysts), modification of existing process methods seems to be a prerequisite. In this paper, using the operational data of the sulfur recycling unit of Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refinery, the method of preheating the flow of acid gas entering the catalytic substrates through SULSIM software has been modified.
Following the above changes, conversion efficiency and recycling efficiency increased by 138.4 kg/hr, 81.7 kg/hr, respectively, and fuel consumption decreased by 271.88 kmol/hr. Finally, the production of environmental pollutants such as carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide decreased by 4.34 and 23 km/h respectively.
