Abstract

In the liquid-liquid extraction processes, hold up of disperse phase and slip velocity are important hydrodynamic parameters. The parameters depend on column geometry and characteristics of phases and were used in the calculation of mass transfer and phases velocities. In this research, holdup and slip velocity of disperse phase in Kuhni column were investigated experimentally. The experiments were carried out in a pilot scale Kuhni column with two chemical systems including Toluene- Acetone-Water and butyl acetate-Acetone-Water without mass transfer. The effects of operating parameters including rotor speed disperse and continue phase flow rate on hold up and slip velocity were investigated. The results showed that hold up of disperse phase increases with mixing and phases flow rates whereas slip velocity was decreased with increasing of rotor speed. Also the results indicate that mass transfer effects on hold up of disperse phase and slip velocity.
