Abstract

In all catalytical processes, catalyst is deactivated due to the coke lay-down on that surface; therefore, it must be recovered by burning off the coke which can be accompleshed by in-situ or ex-situ approaches. In this research, ex-situ regeneration of a deactivated vacuum gas oil hydrocracking catalyst is investigated in a lab scale device. Then, the specifications of lab-scale ex-situ regenerated catalyst are compared with the fresh and industrial in-situ regenerated one. Results show that the sulfure content in the ex-situ regenerated catalyst is the same as the in-situ regenerated one which is concluded by measuring less coke on the suface of the former catalyst. Additionally, results confirm that ex-situ regenerated catalyst has less mechanical strenghth against the other ones. It is supposed that tensions during the discharging of catalyst from the reactor have caused such a problem. Therefore, this operation should be meticulously conducted.
