Abstract

In this paper, the thermal radiation calculation were performed for fired storage tank to design protection system by Computational Fluid Dynamics. The phenomenon were simulated by FLUENT software. Moreover received thermal radiation by adjacent tank was used to estimate the amount of water required to prevent the fire accident. The calculated heat flux compared with Point Source Model; the results showed that the DO model predicts a higher heat flux in both situations with/without the wind presence. Thus the DO model is safer design than previous presented methods. On the other hand, mentioned model has lesser simplification assumption than previous models. Analytical method and Mudan and Shokri- Beyler models were not applied for the wind presence and the effect of wind is not negligible in the estimation of the heat flux and the amount of cooling water. This would be limit usage of previous models in the various weather conditions.
