Abstract

Measuring the relationship of metallic elements in crude oil and petroleum source rock characteristics is important. The samples were collected in various petroleum refineries and Sample preparation using microwave digestion procedure was performed and the amounts of nickel and vanadium samples by graphite furnace atomic absorption was measured. Crude oil was digested with standard methods and the results obtained with these methods were compared. For sample digestion, factors such as the microwave energy and time required for complete digestion of the sample were optimized in order to have 800 W and 10 minutes. The relative standard deviation of 4.8 and 4.5 per cent and the linear range for nickel and vanadium 0.1 - 100 and 1.0 - 150 micrograms per liter micrograms per liter respectively.
