Vast usage of electric motors force engineers to pay more attention in design of electric motors so these machines could be better used by major population of people. In this article heat transfer mechanism of PMSM is studied. Firstly all parts of the motor is introduced and then heat transfer study has applied on each. The most important part of the motor is winding that is highly vulnerable. The second important part is air-gap. The next important part that should be considered is gap between frame and stator that should be considered while designing. The most convective heart transfer is occurred in air-gap, end windings and inside and outside of the motor. On the other hand, the most conduction heat transfer rate is occurred in stator, rotor and magnet.
